Have you encountered those who claim to be "tolerant" and "positive", yet they take the opportunity to prove they are negative and intolerant when they answer Gay, Lesbian, and Bi questions here? Did they state their unwelcome religious views too?

I make a personal semantic distinction between tolerance and acceptance. Tolerance is the minimum requirement: you really should be able to just DEAL with the fact that there are gay people in society. You should be able to maintain professionalism if someone is out at work. And so on. Acceptance implies that you get that they're just people, and aren't too big on the whole calling us evil thing. And by that distinction, I think I've seen a lot more false acceptance (though false tolerance DOES definitely exist).

Yes such as Senator Biden's statement regarding Senator Obam. Or when someone says: "She's gay and she's cute". Yes, I've encounter sloppy false tolerance.

One can be tolerant and one thing and not of another. More often I find people who purport to be our allies but only when it is comfortable to be.
