To integrate means quite literally to put together to form a whole. When one integrates in mathematics, one is taking the differing pieces of a function (i.e. their different functional values as values of the domain change) and adding them all together to get the complete whole. Hence, we derive the terms differentiation (distinguishing one part from others) and integration (adding them all together).
Here is a link to the fundamental theorem of calculus.

I took calc 2 three times. All I can say is that an integral is going backwards. Taking the integral of a velocity function will give you displacement. An intergral of an acceleration function gives change in velocity. Theres of course a ton of other examples. Once it clicks for the first time you probably wont have to many issues with using and applying them. good luck.

Integrals are basically the opposite of derivatives. The way I used to remember them was if finding the derivative was the regular version of a question, integrals are jeopardy style.

The integral is the area under a curve.
There's a lot more that could be said about this but it's late and I'm tired.

Integrals are basically the anti-derivative. The shape of the line, not necessarily the position. That's why you add C at the end.
