Cleaning up the lab today because we are having the floors done, I found a few old instruments that although only a few years old are new far out of date. This got me thinking, if things like instruments date so quickly could it not also be possible that humans date just as quickly. Could it not be that humans, getting wrapped up in everyday life fall into one way of being, this then getting comfortable they begin to date. The obvious hazards are that we fail to realise what is happening around us and instead judge what is going on by our own standards and try to change to suit ourselves the world around us.

This does not seem to be what animals do however. We have recently addopted two cats who had been abused and mistreated from a local animal rescue group, and they have spent no time make our house their house. Animals do not seem to get wrapped up in one way of being and so seem to handle things better.

Which is it better to be new or old?
Please explain your answers. Thanks

better is relative (lol). is a sweet lil baby better than an old, wise and loving grandparent/loved one? you question makes sense to me and worthy of consideration - particularly the part about realizing what is happening around us and judging or not by our own standards. There is much to learn, question, examine, love, despise etc. I choose not to prefer old vs new in the manner in which you presented it. thanks for the question though. you are not settling. it is good to grow.

It is a messed up world in which we lose our value by going "out of date." I only value being "up to date" in an economic sense - having work skills that are current and competitive is practical. Other than that, the value of being "new" is an illusion. We are just like the animals - we adapt exactly as much as we need to, exactly when we need to. Your kitties would still not know your house, had you never adopted them.

So I guess my answer is, it's better to be old; or at least, I believe that what we're calling "old" really means, not striving to keep up with things that aren't truly different in any important ways. We don't get wrapped up in a way of being unless that is what will work for us; when we need to change superficially, we can and do. But even a person today is not really different from, say, a person in the fifteenth century.

I think ppl get stuck in time it is better to keep moving with time instead of stopping. it is better to be old but to keep renewing yourself.
