As it is a router you don't actually need to install anything on your computer. The software you get with it just makes it easier for you to initially set it up.
The manual should state a default IP address for it. Such as (192.168.100.1 255.255.255.0)
If the router has DHCP on as default (which it most likely does) set your computers IP settings to use DHCP.
If it does not or using DHCP does not work then do the following:-
Set your computers IP address to an address on the same network for instance if the router is
192.168.100.1 255.255.255.0 then set yours to
192.168.100.2 255.255.255.0
Now do this:-
Connect to the router using a cat 5 (LAN) cable which should have been provided with it.
Then using a web browser enter the ip address 192.168.100.1 (that of the router) into the URL box.
This should take you to the web interface of the router.
Enter the deafualt username (admin) and password also shown in the instructions and then you can configure the settings from there.
If it is not a router or you are using a USB interface on the device then you will need to install the software.

If it is an Apple Airport (white domed thing) it shouldn't be a problem. If you got it second hand try resetting it - threres a concealed rest button at the back. It will work on both Windows and Mac OSs. Try the link below
