I took a calc 2 class over the summer. The pace was blistering and there was little time for one concept to sink in. For me, I would rather have the time for new learned techniques to set in a bit more. But there are those who did just fine in the class. I guess it depends on your approach to the subject. Do you like math? Is it a level which you are closer to or new concepts? One thing is certian, you will go faster.

In general, it's not a great idea. I've taken a couple of courses like that and taught some, and they are generally hard on everyone. The problem is that it may take a certain amount of time for some concepts to sink into your head. Courses that work during the summer are lab courses, art courses, music appreciation, and things that might be a bit more experimental. Math courses can be, of course, but don't use the summer term to 'get them out of the way.'

Of course, this is not an answer for everyone. If you are good in math, yea. However, I took Fundamentals of Modern Math in college. Nobody knew what was being taught. The instructor told us at the beginning of the semester that as long as we participate, do our homework (even if no answers are right we get 100%), show up for class, and act as though we were attempting to learn, that we would pass. Those of us who got 3.0s for that class left the class with the same knowledge as when we started the class. That instructor was fired a few years later. Do research on the class to see if you think that you will finish. Summer classes are tough because of the timing. Take classes that you know you will be able to finish.

I took a college math course that was 4 hours every Saturday. It was hard staying alert and paying attention for that long but I did it. I would say that if it's a condensed course then the only thing harder is paying attention for a long period of time and then doing multiple chapters of homework during one week. Good luck if you do it!

You cover the gist of things in a shorter period. Thats great for easy-going teachers that will let a lot of things slide, but bad for hard teachers that want to get every point accross. In general, the higher up you go, the harder the summer classes are.

It can be harder in the summer if the term is shorter. You have to cover the same material in shorter time. But, you might have easier teachers in the summer. It really all depends on the teacher.

Calculus is one of the most useful maths you may ever learn other than arithmetic. Precalculus usually focuses on limits, which are good for learning calculus in theory, but not so much in practice. If I were taking calculus again, I would start by reading physics of gravitation and the basics of ballistics. It is easiest for me to think about calculus and relationships with derivatives when I imagine a point, distance, velocity, acceleration, jerk, etc.

It's easier to take it over the summer because you can concentrate on the class. You still have to put in the effort. I bet you will get a good grade. You should do it!!

Yes, over the summer was the only way I could tolerate it. No, it's not harder, easier. Get it out of the way and put the whole thing behind you. haha
