I don't watch the show myself but I saw on the news today where they talked about the old man who sang a song in honor of his deceased wife and it brought the ladies to tears and left Simon speechless. I just wanted to know how it was to those who saw all of it.

VERY TOUCHING! Made me cry. Here is the song he did.

You Belong To Me by The Duprees

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sun rise on a tropic isle
Just remember
darling
all the while
You belong to me

See the marketplace in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
But remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
Watch the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

Yes, he left everyone speechless. He wasn't able to participate. But he sang a song, it was beautiful, and dedicated it to his wife. At the end Simon shook his hand. The many said, "I WON." Even though he didn't participate he knew his wife was watching him from above and in her eyes and everyone watching he had won.

Does anyone have a You Tube URL of that scene? Yahoo Video doesnt work for me, ABC news has only audio and no video... and yes he expressed the song beautifully, even without the video, the song touched my heart

I hope someone has a you tube URL so I can watch it as well... thank you

I think the guy was sincere. I don't believe he had any expectation of becoming a star. I just think he did it for his wife. He was better than a lot of freaks who go on there and think they can actually sing. I think a lot of people really don't have good friends cause if they did they would tell them how much some of them suck.

It was very touching. His wife was dying, so he started a petition to allow him to get on A.I. It was away for him to give his was a positive activity to take her mind of her pain. I was moved to tears as he was explaining to the judges....he had a very good voice too, and the song was sweet!

It was just a little cheesy but very sweet. This man obviously really loved his sweetheart who had died very recently and wanted to make a big statement about it. I cried too.

It was very intense and such a triumph for him with his story and all the signatures. (His wife had died just two days before the audition!) It was very sentimental and brought tears to my eyes.
