Your baby is just 2 months old. Baby eyesight cannot see from far distance right now. But, baby can listen to voice. So, you try to call your baby and see whether he have any reaction.
You need to wait until your baby reach 3 months, I think his eyesight is well developed, then he can start to smile at you.
My baby just born few months ago, so I have experience.

My baby that is now 2. Was not a big smiler. So she did not really smile at me either. However at 2 months your baby should be interested in looking at things. He may not look at you for a long time...or he may rather look at the wall if you are sitting across the room. But try sitting right in front of him. Doctors have a job for a reason and if we did not ask questions and see them when we were in doubt, then they would not have a job. SO ask as many questions as possible. Finding the word "normal" is hard with a new born. Because all babies are so different. But to ease your mind. Go see your doctor. Good luck. and in the mean time, enjoy your baby!

At this age I would not worry about him smiling at you. I was obsessed with it and my baby did not start until 3 months. However at that age he should have smile reflexes in his sleep. As far as not looking at you that is strange. Are you the mom or dad? If you are the mom a baby can see you at breasts length in the first few weeks. It is natural for them to look at you. I was worried about my baby because I would put bright objects in front of her face and she would not blink or look at it. I thought something was wrong. I was not too worried because she loved looking at lights. She is 3 1/2 months now and focus on everything. Don't worry too much, take your baby to the Dr. and have them do cognitaive tests. They will be able to tell you if something is wrong. Every baby progresses differently.
Good Luck.

if they are crying and waking up at the slightest sound and crapping all day and eating all night then i think they are fine. but seriously i don't know the developmental stages of babies so i dont know if 2 months is good enough for a smile and a stare down.
