I am polite to them but I act as if I am in a hurry and tell them so.
I make up a story as to why I must go.
Such as:
I have a doctor's appt.
I need to pick up a friend
I need to get home to let the dogs out.
I have company comming over later and I need to go home to fix the finger food or dinner.
I'm going out of town and I don't want to get a late start.
I have to go to work. I'm filling in for someone today.
It just goes on like that.

I tell them boring annoying things, opinions on boring subjects. That makes them disappear. Think like them.

haha, i always get stuck in this type of thing. if its on the phone i'd say, i gotta go to the bathroom, catch you later. if its on a date i send a text message to myself then make it a reason to wrap things up, like say oops nobody is gonna pic my lil sis up i hope you don't mind catching up again soon. if its like at work or school i'd go, gotta go got so much to do!
