A player may wear a plastic face guard to protect against any recovering facial fracture wether it be from cheek bone, nose of orbital socket. However, some players have worn the plastic beyond recovery as a preventive measure from reoccurance. In some cases, players have altered their game with a face mask and actually played well beyond it's need becuase they played better wearing the mask.

To protect something on their face:
-Their nose cause they got it broke.
-Their eyes cause they don't want to lose them (you wouldn't want to either).
