Ok, I am Black born in America. My parents, grandparents, great grand parents and great greats are from the Caribbean.
I for some reason was born with light blue eyes, and in fact are still blue. (This has caused problems between my parents who after a while just ignored that fact). It's kind of difficult growing up in Brooklyn, NY and being different is often looked upon as a disease.
I got picked on and called fake, because alot of peers believed I wore contacts and if having blue eyes isn't enough trying having long hair (above buttocks length). So instead of arguing with them, I just let them believe what they want and for a while it worked.
I know I'm different, but who should it bother people?. I am now 22 and I love that about me. Even though it might not be common, I find it to be beautiful.
But my question is, even though people understands that it can happen, why are they so quick to judge and point fingers instead of embrance what makes us unique?

I understand where you are coming from. It is just the way our race is because we have been kind of trained to hate ourselves. I had alot of problems growing up "mixed." everywhere I go it is "what are you mixed with" this only comes from minorities by the way. Then I was never accepted by black women because I had a lighter skin tone and curly hair. They tell me why do you wear so much makeup when I wore none at all. This is just how our race works. Blue eyes are beautiful. This is what I love so much about the human race though.....there is so much diversity. Though people may have a picture in their head of what a certain race shoud look like....we are far from that picture. Have a nice night!

I am white with brown eyes, husband has green. One of my sons has bright blue eyes. People have assumed I cheated, asked if they have the same fathers, etc. People are just not very bright when it comes to things like genetics, much less other things. Personally, I'm jealous as you sound beautiful. Why does it bother people? They are shallow and probably jealous also. You don't fit the mold that they want you to fall into and they just can't get outside that little box that their brain is trapped in. Embrace your blue eyes, your black skin and your beauty and just realize those that can't see who you are inside you don't need them in your life anyway. Make no excuses for who you are.

I understand you. I'm mexican, and I look like a white girl, I have light skin and green eyes. I got picked on when I was younger too. But I just ignored people like that. I was born in Mexico, both of my parents are mexican and my grand parents as well. You are probablly very beautiful and people just picked on you for being different. I'm glad that you embrace it. And usually when people pick on you it's because they are ignorant and don't know what they are talking about. If you got picked on by girls, they were just jealous because you are prettier than them and they wish they had your blue eyes. Like I said some people are just ignorant.

Well, first off - you're not black. You're melanin like everyone else. Some have a little melanin and have lighter skin. Some have more melanin and have darker skin. If a person didn't have melanin - they would die. Second, no one is pure anything. There is some recessive gene where someone who was probably African had a secret affair with a European woman who had blue eyes. You know, there are so many stories like this but at the time - the world thought it was shameful and would cover up your true history. Also, I believe we all share a common ancestor - therefore there is a chance but a very minimal one for any recessive gene that is unusual to pop up at any time. It's fascinating to consider really. Answers in Genesis has really fascinating information on the topic of races. So, when I but had kids I was hoping one of them would turn up a recessive gene but the only one that did - was a webbed toe. Now having blue eyes and dark skin is an beautiful genetic twist.

That is so beautiful!
Black with blue eyes is so pretty and very rare ..so that just makes it so much better!
People are probably jealous and that is why they say these things. I doubt that guys would judge you because they probably think it is sexy. People probably judge you because it is uncommen for blacks to have blue eyes.
I am white and I have blue eyes and I think blue eyes are the prettiest eyes there are.
Be glad you have this!!
One of the worlds most beautiful blacks (in my opinion) Tyra Banks, has greenish-blue eyes and I think she is soo pretty! and Vannessa WIlliams has blue eyes and they are so pretty too.
I am sure you are very beautiful and don't let people get you down :)

Black people could have blue eco-friendly or hazel eyes. both by skill of a mutation of their genes of purely characteristics handed down from their relatives. that is in reality uncommon for a black man or woman to have any diverse eye colour than brown its not not available,

Blue eyes are a recessive trait. It is very uncommon, but possible, that after remaining hidden for several generations this trait might resurface. Do you have photos of your so-many-greats grandparents? Did any of them have blue eyes?
Be proud of who you are and where you come from. What you look like is just what you look like.

I am Black too, and YES I got a dark eyes.. WOW!,, Is this something I should brag about it?
Come on people, the purpose of YA is to educate one another, not to tell us your eyes color or what kind of nail polish you use.

Thats the west indian in you, remember many of the west indies were inhabited by the dutch (blond hair/blue eyes) when that gene is in your family somewhere along the line it will reveal itself again. The only people its bothering is those who are jealous. Noone ever embraces "difference" - I think it sounds fabulous!
