Your quickest, cheapest (other than walking) and most hassle free way of getting from the Airport to Reading is by train.. you can get the train from any terminal and it will take you straight to Reading.

Its about 35 miles and will take about 45 minutes

Enjoy your stay

Despite what some people say there is NOT a direct train from Heathrow to Reading. But there IS a direct bus run on behalf of the train company (First Great Western). This runs every 20-30 minutes, but obviously it goes from the BUS station at Heathrow!

If you can find it, there will be Holiday Inn shuttle bus.

If you want an ordinary bus then Heathrow bus station is in the centre of the airport. From there you can get a bus to Reading bus station (about 30 minuites).
When you get to reading bus station then a taxi will be easiest for the rest of the journey unless you're willing to use a local bus (about 10 mins journey).

DO NOT GET A TAXI FROM HEATHROW TO READING AT ALL. It'll cost you a fortune.

Yes there is bus you can catch from the central bus station which is situated in the space between terminals 1,2 and 3. Another option is to get the train from a local train station. There is a travel information desk in the London Underground station at the airport, you can always ask them for advice they are very helpful. When in the UK you can also call 0207 222 1234 for travel advice from heathrow airport,or anywhere else in London.
