Take a ton of math and science classes. Computer language classes and design engineering classes. The minimum requirements are usually a Bachelors degree in computer science just to "get your foot in the door". This is usually a career that you have a passion for or pick up these advanced ideas and techniques quickly. These people "live" in front of their computer for usually a year or two to make one game. The whole team does. It could be 10 people, 14 hours a day for a year or two for that one game. Like I said earlier, either you need the passion to keep going, or understand it so it's not such a difficult job. It will wear you out if you really shouldn't be in that field. Good Luck. Oh by the way, just ask popular video game companies where (college or institution) they recruit the majority of their employees from then go from there.

There are multiple things. There's game designer who is pretty much in charge of the basic setting and gameplay, there's writers, programmers, art designers and other positions. There is no specific course you can take that guanrentees a job, if you take a course in video games and you can't get a job, then you need to go back to school. They are looking for people with expertise in anything from architechture to programming code.

If you have the aptitude, learn how design and write code. Trust me, once you get tired of the game industry (and you will), you can apply these skills damn near everywhere. Really good software engineers aren't taught, they are born.

I challenge you to stand up and look around at all the devices around you. There are at least 5 things running software that at some point was written by a software engineer/programmer.

go to your school guidance counselor - they can help you with this and maybe scholarships for college. I do think it would be graphic arts design you would need to study. Good luck and go for your dreams!
