terro, ant traps,spray,pepper-nothing seems to work. It's like they go get their friends and family. They are the small ones and I think they made a home in the insulation. It's been freezing here-I shouldn't have them- yet they are there, every day. What are they after? I don't keep food in the bathroom. They are driving me crazy!

I've had those ants a few times over the years. It always seems no matter how clean you keep it they still seem to come.

The way I got rid of them is to get a cheap bottle of boric acid powder (a very mild and safe form of ant control you can get at places like Home Depot and Lowes in the pest control section next to the gardening supplies). Also get a small container of mint jelly (I think this type of jelly must work better than others because I never hear of people using any other type when performing ant control.)

Mix two tablespoons boric acid powder per 10 ounces of mint apple jelly. Take a thin piece of cardboard or a doubled over piece of paper and tape it firmly against part of the surface directly over the pathway the ants are using and make thin rows of the boric acid jelly solution on it, thin enough for the ants to get between so that as many of the ants have access to the edges of the jelly as possible. Some will get stuck in the jelly, but many will take bits of this stuff back to their nest and feed it to the rest of the colony and queen. You may have to replace the paper or cardboard with fresh jelly daily for 3 or 4 days, and then they'll be gone for good.

You'll see noticably less after a day to day and a half, then it'll take another day or two for them to dwindle to nothing.

Of course, if you have young children that can't understand that they shouldn't mess with it, then I'd reconsider just masking any scents they may be queuing in on by wiping the surface where they've developed a scent trail with a disinfectant cleaning product, and then periodically spraying with a disinfectant. This has a good chance of repulsing them, but it may not keep them out in the long term.

The best way is to try a bait. If they carry it back to the nest then you eliminate the queen and the nest dies out.
Be aware that you will see MORE ants initially but that is a good thing. You want alot of the bait to reach the nest. It will be tempting to spray the ants you see but if you let the bait work after a few weeks you will stop seeing them.

Wash all surfaces with a solution of vinegar and water. 1 to 1 solution. Leave some lemon skins laying around in the bathroom. Squeeze some lemon juice into the areas that you think they are get into the bathroom. Mix up a solution of borax and sweetened condensed milk into small balls and place them around your house in the areas where you think they are gettin into the house. Be sure and use rubber gloves, dispose of them after wards. Be very careful where children are concerned. This last mixture is a type of homemade poison. Do not leave it laying around.

cInvade their home. Ant travel in two directions away from and towards there home. Therefore by following the ants you will find there home or whats drawing them to your bathroom. Upon finding either, destroy it!! Good Luck!! Worked for me!
P.S. If the line extends beyond your property remove there scent trail with bleach at least 4 feet of the scent trail.

I had an Uncle that really enjoyed his beans almost daily. That man could clear out a house ants and all. :) Sorry don't have a good answer I'm just being a smart a**. You might contact a local exterminator and have him give you some tips or pay to have it done, that way its guaranteed they wont show up again. Good luck

Its freezing here too but this is the 2nd or 3rd time i have had to spray them away too. I heard its because since their is no food outside they come in doors. I just spray all over and even though they come back i just keep doing it. If the problem does get back though I will call the pest control definetly. Good luck!
