1050 is the combination of the verbal portion and the math section. Each section is out of 800 points, so a perfect score would be 1600. 1000 is the average, so 1050 is slightly above average. When combined with good grades, the kid could get into some public universities and some private universities.

They've recently added a writing section, so now the score is out of 2,400.

Is this recent? Or old? In the old days, 1050 was enough to get into the University of California if you had a B average. Now, the SAT's go up to 2400, and they're in three parts, and you can get a minimum of 200 on each part by basically signing your name. So it's not good like it used to be.

In the old days, a 1050 was in the middle. Now it's down at the bottom 4%.

Under the old test (out of 1600), that was just average. I don't know if that was good enough to get into a UC. If it was, then it was just barely and only into UC Riverside or Santa Cruz.

Under the new scale, which is out of 2400, it's really bad.
