In most high school geometry, trgonometry and calculus books you will be hard pressed to find in the indes any words strting with the letter J. However when you get into some of the more esoteric geometries, you find a few.
Jacbsthal Numbers
J-Holomorphic curves
J is used to denote the angular momentum operator
J is used to denote a unit vector
J in electricall engineering, j is used as the square root of minus 1 instead of i which is used to denote current.
Good and interesting question.

huh im not sure about this one but i think you are talking of imaginary numbers where it stands for the squareroot of negative one and the usual symbol is i but electrical engineers dont use it but instead they use j so that they can use i as the symbol for the current
