Correct. The war against Iraq ended long ago when Saddam's regime was removed and a legitimate government was elected.

We are now helping Iraq defend its people against Islamists and Islamists are attacking all over the world.

The Iraq war lasted less than 3 weeks and effectively ended when the marines and army routed the Iraqi army at "the battle of Baghdad" which started at the Baghdad airport.

The only advantage to continuing to call it a war is political, it's a lot harder to drum up support against a policing and rebuilding action than it is to drum up anti-war support.

It's sad that some people want us to believe a very complex situation is actually just a routine civil war with 2 sides fighting each other.

There is a civil war aspect to the fighting in Iraq, there is also an Al Queda aspect and an Iranian aspect.

the civil war aspect has been overly documented.

the Al Queda aspect has to do with setting up a shadow government in western Iraq and trying to turn Al Anbar province into the next Afghanistan.

the Iranian aspect is complicated, they are fighting a gorilla war against the US soldiers and fueling the other two conflicts.

We could I suppose just pull out and bring the troops home, in less than 2 years when the bombs start going off in US cities maybe we'll wish we'd stayed.

A recent poll taken in Iraq revealed that 70% of Iraqis want us to leave and 60% of Iraqis believe that it is ok to kill American forces.
The fact is that Iraqis are doing the killing. Sunnis are killing Shia and Shia are killing Sunnis and our forces are in the middle being killed by both sides. I do not have a clue where people get the idea that all of killing is being done by non Iraqis.

Beats me. Most of the people that are making all the car bombs and such are from other countries..yet people tend to blame the Iraqis...that does not make any sense to me!
