I have 2 Red Ear Sliders that are approximately 1 year olds. 3 months ago I bought another Red Ear slider and put in with them. They all got along fine. Last week my husband added another baby to the tank and today we found one of the older ones biting the one we recently purchased. It wasn’t just one bite-it kept on biting it several times. It couldn’t have been hungry b/c we fed them n monitored that they all ate enough. We put the biter in a separate container until I can find a solution. What do I do? Please help!

Territory. You have to take them all out and keep them out for like 15 minutes and then clean the tank while you're waiting and then put them back. (They might fight when you put them back in but not enough to hurt each other)

You've upset the territorial balance by adding one too many turtles to the tank. You'll either need a) a bigger tank or b) place the newcomer in his own tank or c) sell the new one.

Turtles can't be reasoned with, and they will not eventually learn to get along.

vet visits are good, and they are territorial, but i have never seen one attack anything but food. doesn't mean that i haven't seen them chase another out of it's spot. i have 3 living in a 800 gallon pond which get put in a separate 110 gallon plastic feeder for horses and such. which get kept in the basement for winter. one thing to keep in mind is, they require a lot of room there not fish. none of the same rules apply. they need approximately 10gallons per inch. and that is the bare minimum. i don't want to sound mean but i know from experience. i lost my first turtle, because the pet shop said a plastic rubber tote, a bright light, a place to get out of the water, and a filter would do.

i also have a couple of red ear sliders and one is just like your biter. this turtle eats all the food from the others and if it seems that others are eating more than him then he will snap at the others head. Two years ago I had him and my painted turtle together and one day i came home my painted baby's head was half gone and one of its leg.

I would talk to a vet. My brother had a red ear slider, but he only had one in the tank. Wish I was of more help!

RES are very very territorial. I put in a baby box turtle with mine, and eventually the turtles bit it and killed it.

if they feel that the newcomer has violated there property than they will attack... you should get a bigger tank.
