There's an open area that refuses to heal and is oozing bloody/puss looking fluid and also appears to be infected. Currently, care is administered in the form of cleaning the area with Peroxide and then applying Betadine to the affected area. Please advise me at this point what my next action should be..Thanks for your advice

Well.. I'd have to say my dear.. it's infected. You didn't mention how long ago the hysterectomy was... it could be normal drainage if it was really recent. However, based on your question mentioning other spots healing.. I'd say it's been long enough that it shouldn't still be draining.

You need to have it looked at. Bloody puss is a good sign of infection. A 10 day round of antibiotics will help it out.

Also, my last surgery I had a similiar problem. The infection left a very nasty scar.. so don't wait. Call the surgeon in the morning and I'm sure he will take care of it quickly.

In the meantime... I'll tell you what I did for the horrible surgical infection I had. My neurosurgeon said to use this product. I would never have thought to use except he insisted it be this exact product because it is antimicrobial. Go to the pharmacy (I'm sure you have a 24 hour one near you)... and purchase "Hibiclense" It is an antimicrobial surgical wash that they use in the hospital. I know for a fact that Walgreens carries it. The stupid cashier said "I dunno" but the pharmacist knew exactly where to find it. It is a baby blue bottle. Make them find it for you.

Stop using betadine and peroxide and use the Hibiclense several times a day. Just pour it on the wound. Make sure you dab it dry with a fresh clean towel. Also, don't cover the part that isn't healing with bandages or dressing. Keep the area as dry as possible and use the Hibiclense wash several times.

Your surgery like mine, is a traumatic surgery to our bodies. Post surgical infections are very nasty and you need to make sure you follow up with the doctor. But trust me.. the Hibiclense will help tremendously in the meantime.

Best of luck for better days. *HUGS*

i suggest going to the hospital immediately! after surgery especially major surgery of this kind an infection can spread extremely quickly and must be handled with extreme care. after a historectomy i advise not having sex for a few months or until you are comfortable and the area is fully and i do mean fully 110% healed! the hospital can tell you if it is truely an infection or if it is natural for this to happen, i believe that you should have it checked soon. go to the hospital, if it is an infection the risk is it may spread easily and fast due to all the layers that the doctors had to cut through to get to the organs. this leaves a path directly to your inner body ie intestines, bladders, etc... for the infection to spread if it is such.

Peroxide will keep the wound raw and hard to heal. You need to check in with your doctor and get some meds. sounds like you may have an infection.

You need to see the doc and get some antibiotic for it as well as an antibiotic ointment. Unless the doc told you to use peroxide don't use that as it is too harsh. Use normal saline to cleanse the wound. You do need to see the doc though so he can culture the wound to find out what bacteria is causing your infection and prescribe the proper medicine.

You need to go back to your doctor. This is nothing to play with. You can end up with blood poisoning from infection.

This is not good. You can end up with a infection that goes into your blood and is fatal. Please go back to your Dr. right away and have this checked.

Talk to your Doctor, because you could get a very bad infection and eventually have to have more surgery. Please call your Doctor and please don't have any intercourse.
