discordant - just as sounds (cord) that really don't go together (dis) sound harsh, so discordant means harsh

impertinent- means literally "not belonging" or "not pertaining to" people that meddled in other people's affairs were impertinent.... they were where they didn't belong. They were being disrespectful.
