Why do I hate Valentines Day so much? Im not single, I am very happily married. For as long as I remember I have always hated that day. Nothing tramatic happened. I just hate all the little bears and hearts and 'Oh, what should I get so and so' or "Oh, he better get me blah blah." I think it is safe to say Im a pretty happy person, most of the time. I really wanted to get into it this year, but I just cant. Any ideas why Im so "down on cupid?"

My husband never forgets. I have to beg him not to get me anything. He can buy me anything on the day before or the day after, just not on Feb. 14.

There's nothing wrong with you, except maybe rationality. Its a BS hyped up "holiday". With no real purpose except to promote consumerism. I'm female, happily married for almost 17 years now, and we've never acknowledged this so-called holiday. You don't need artificially created nonsense to know your relationship is good, so just ignore it. Celebrate something with some actual importance, like each other's birthday.

Well, maybe you think like I do, that every day, we should all be honoring those we love. And the commercial endorsements promoting this day dedicated to love, seems hypocritical when you think of all the people doing bad things to other people, crimes, terrorism, gang wars, hatred of any kind for anyone. The cutesy hearts and flowers look so ridiculous and silly when you think of things on a worldwide scale. That the scope of our ability to love one another can be reduced to a symbolic red heart on a card. We need way more than a cartoon to help us love one another better! Valentine's Day is every day. This one day is a stupid campaign for someone's financial gain. Christmas is beginning to annoy me too. It's no longer what it's meant to be. The big material bonanza that it's turned into is awful. And those that are not celebrating the birth of Christ have to have this holiday pushed in their faces. When is all this going to go back to some normalcy? It's a nice idea to dedicate a special day to celebrate whatever, but the commercial frenzy that results, just takes away all the joy for me! I hear you! I'm happily married too, and a generally very happy well-adjusted person with no traumas either attached to these special days. My husband and I don't need Valentine's Day to remind us to recognize the other! We're becoming so annoying as a society, I really wonder sometimes where we're going with all this!

I too hate Valentines Day, and I am also not single. I think it's because of all the cutesy things they have out. It reminds me of middle school when girls used to buy their boyfriends stupid stuff like Teddy Bears. Here's a hint girls...Guys don't want Teddy Bears for Valentines Day or any other day for that matter

I don't hate it it all. I know those silly little bears and things are hard to take; but thank goodness they are given to other people and not me. It seems you cannot get away from a certain amount of silliness on any holiday nowadays! Most holidays are like that. I like a few of the other answers on here, too. Cheer up. As long as YOU are not getting the damn bear....
It is nice that your husband remembers you, too.

Valentine's day, like Christmas had become overly commercialized that it seems like an obligation to buy something for someone. Everyday should be a special day for your loved ones and we should not fall into the commercial trap.

I wonder, what are your thoughts on christmas etc?
Could it be because it has strayed from its original meaning, and has become an orgy of commercialism?
Or that love has been replaced with cheap 'stuff' ?
Maybe you, like me, like the idea, but not the commercial crap around it.
