he is definitely gifted...but i find his books to wander off on too many tangents and then they seem to get lost (or maybe i'm the one getting lost)...and some of his endings are so bizzare. i prefer the film adaptations to most of his books...but not all (the langoliers - barf!)

well I have to say that his earlier stuff was really good, and some of the best classic horror movies have come from these novels/short stories... his more recent stuff is very convoluted and half-way through the book you still not sure what he's on about... I think he was a better writer when he was on drugs *lol*... but seriously he has an awesome imagination... and has been scaring people for decades... and sometimes writes really good dramas eg: green mile, shawshank redemption etc.

Joe Hill (King's son) Robert McCammon Dan Simmons Richard Laymon Clive Barker Bentley Little Graham Masterton When I'm looking for someone new in the horror genre to read, I check out the Bram Stoker Award winners. There's usually someone new and interesting to try.

I think he is really good. But he does have a tendency to go off the track he is on and talk about a load of toot for a while in his books. I often wonder how and where he gets his ideas from. I would be pretty nervous if i was his wife, you wouldn't know what he was thinking lying next to you in bed would you!!! Heard him on radio 2 a while ago, he is really funny and down to earth has a great sense of humour but you can get that from his books, he also loves rock music and watching Lost, good man!! Yes i think he is a VERY good at writing horror. (as well as 'normal stuff too).

Yes for his time he was amazing and most good horror films have been based on his books. Stephen Kings IT is one of my faves and scares the hell out of me to this day lol

Very good horror writer ...even better dramatic fiction writer.
Some of his best writing are the elements to his stories that are not scary. For example, the love story in IT.

As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the BEST. He knows exactly what scares people. I really don't like when they try to turn his books into movies though...they never seem to be able to capture the "feel" of his stories. The only one I ever thought was done well was Dolores Claiborne.

If you haven't read "Cell" yet, be ready for one of his best (other than The Stand, that is).

He's a very good story teller, though i find some of his non horror efforts..ie stand by me and the green mile are much better than his horror. for horror i generally prefer james herbert and clive barker.

he made some very terrific novels like The Green Mile, that had alot of in dept mystery to it, and another one down on my list of moives from the king is Pet Cemetery that had a very intreasting ending to it.. and who can forget about the mini eposide of Kingdom Hospital.... now that is scary!

And from Kings books he had wrote some very intreasting titles that repersented some very intreasting storys, so yes he is a good horror wrtiing and a very good moive maker
