Susan B Anthony & Elizabeth Cady Stanton began the movement to allow women the right to vote. There was also the Feminist Movement which focused on equality for women in the work place. In the 1960's women were not encouraged to become anything other than secretaries, nurses & wives. The women who were much involved & who were leaders of the movement were Germaine Greer, Bella Asbug but mostly Betty Freidman who recently died.

On a personal basis, in 1968 when I was 22 yrs old & had been self-supporting for 5 yrs I was not allowed to get a $200 loan w/o my father as a co-signer. I had a married friend who couln't set up her own checking acct; she had to have a joint acct with her husband.

J.S. Mill. I'm putting him up here and not other, more important women (Such as Susan B. Anthony) because A) I want to show that *gasp* men aren't Nazis, and B) because everyone is going to tell you Susan B. Anthony and that you're teacher will know you did good research if you throw in J.S. Mill. He was one of the first people to write about the equality of women...and he did it before S.A.B..and he was a man, which is important. Good luck on your speech.

inspite of being an anti-fem, i will say that this somewhat does happen. i can not sat I continually trust their techniques, besides the undeniable fact that it does happen. in case you go with for to help remote places women inspite of the shown fact that, you do might desire to understand their lifestyle. it is the place the two church homes and different crusaders, feminists risk-free in many cases bypass incorrect. additionally, as observed various cases right here, you go with for an infrastructure to assist empowerment. you besides might can not waltz in to remote places international locations, wrapped up in western privilege, and tell the girls there that their adult adult males are oppressing them. as much as I disagree with Islam (i'm entitled to my opinion in this) you may no longer bypass into someplace like Iran without severe warning: this is a faith controlled state, and any feminist "missionaries" would be completely challenge to those rules. If, somewhat than going your self, you may somewhat help people who be attentive to a thank you to function in those international locations already, then this is extra advantageous: provide them the supplies to construct up communities there. be conscious, i do no longer propose assisting women on my own: it would desire to be community progression somewhat that western type empowerment and divisive recommendations. EDIT: Eoghan makes a stable factor too: numerous western feminism demands a western point of affluence with a view to make it artwork. this facilitates people, women as a effect, to communicate the jobs they undertake (willingly or no longer) in society. In a subsistence cuture that is not achieveable. weapons is likewise spectacular too: as an anti-fem, i've got self belief that many feminists may be the proverbial bull in a china keep and not understand remote places cultures.

National Union of Women's Suffrage (N.U.W.S) was started in 1897 by Millicent Fawcettt and they campaigned for the right to vote ... but it was the Women's Social and Political Union (W.S.P.U) IN 1903 headed by Emmeline Pankhurst that campaigned more militantly... setting fire to churches, breaking shop windows in Oxford Street, chaining themselves to railings outside Buckingham Palace and Downing Street ... even risking death when going on hunger-strike in prison .
But it was Emily Wilding Davison's death when she through herself in front of the King's horse Anmer at the 1913 Epsom Derby that was caught on newsreel that it was brought to major public attention.
Women finally earned the right to vote in the UK in 1918 with full rights in 1928.
American women earned voting rights with the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.
New Zealand women were first to earn those rights by 1893. And I salute you all !!!
