You multiply each side by the LCD (lowest common denomintator). So the expample's LCD would be 4. Then multiply each side by the LCD. and the fraction is gone.

Try to clear away the fractions by multiplying both sides of the equation by the least common multiple. In this problem you have halves and fourths. Multiply each side by four.

4(3/4n - 1/2) = 4(7/4)
3n - 2 = 7
3n = 9
n = 3

n=3

3/4n= 7/4+2/4
3/4n= 9/4
n= 9/4 * 4/3 (The 4s cancel and 9/3 is 3)
n=3

n*(3/4n-1/2=7/4)
4*(3/4 - n/2 = 7n/2)
3 - 2n = 7n
5n = 3
n = 3/5, not the answer you're looking for

maybe rewrite it as 3/(4n - 1/2) = 7/4 ?
3*4 = 7(4n - 1/2)
12 = 28n - 7/2.... this won't get to the answer you're looking for either, please rewrite the question, enclose them in parenthesis to make them clearer.
