no, i don't get offended. Yes, I'm Black but...I mean, there are many countries like Africa all around the world that are in the same condition, ya know? And if you offend a black person, well...that's on them personally, not you...your trying to teach, and also teach them realities that go on in the world today. :)

Africa, is a place where there is no hurricanes, no tornadoes, no earthquakes, no tsunamis, NO NATURAL DISASTER. SUNNY DAYS all year long. No winter, no four seasons. Now who doesn't want to live place like this?. If Europeans were disgusted about Africa, they would not COLONIES it and settle there EVEN TODAY.
"Africa is such a poor and disease ridden place". NOT REALLY. The fact of the matter is, PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT about Africa. What is Africa?. People think it is ONE BIG country. The media shows ONLY negative things about Africa and Africans, such as starving people and sick people. I can go to the most developed country on Earth, and yet see homeless, poor people and sick people. Let's say in the US, I can video tape 100 of hours of video to show homeless Americans and other MILLIONS with NO medicare. NOW!. Africa is huge, THE SECOND LARGEST CONTINENT, meaning it is a variety place, a large place. Not every corner in Africa is poor and disease ridden. If that is the case, THERE WOULD BE NOBODY wishing to travel to Africa to see an exotic animals, and so on. Africa is the MOST EXPENSIVE place to travel to, ask yourself why. Just one hour of Safari in Africa will cost you $ 1000. Fact. Look at the coastal cities in East Africa, from Mombasa, Lamu, Malindi, to Somalia's long coast. It is a place LIKE NO WHERE ELSE.
GO SEE IT YOURSELF.

It's obvious you have never been to Africa, which is a very beautiful country. Normally what you see on television, in the magazines and news papers are always, the negative portrayal of any culture non white. Africa is very rich in land, and wealth under the ground, family values and culturally. There are places in African outsiders dare not explore due to the primitive life styles, that is very rich in rubies and diamonds and sapphire. But no, you wouldn't know of these things. Do research for they have been documented. Instead of dwelling on the poor and disease ridden places that are portrayed, look deeper into the countries wealth. I can't believe you are a teacher and you can't think or be creative outside the box. Do you know what the colors of the African flag stand for? Black is for the people, Red is for the bloodshed, Green is for the land and Yellor/Gold is for its weath. You would be amazed if you only look pass the impoverishment.

Emotionally torn with that one....it is the home land of African Americans.....but even with the give first part of our give culture name "African" we are Americans.....the culture and heritage was ripped from us many generations ago....we are like third cousins of Africa, family but strangers.....
So I yes I mourn for all the citizens of Africa.
But no I don't feel insulted about the conversation, unless other racist cultures try to link me into the problem, as if I helped to created the absolute poverty that Africa is suffering from...........

That's interesting...I'm actually from a blk nation and when I speak of my homeland, I have people, esp blk americans, say how they've never heard anyone rep a blk nation so positively.
my mom used to always say blk people esp in america would have much higher esteem if africa had a more positive image.
i think there are more misconceptions and people never highlight the positive aspects of Africa, such as the beautiful wildlife, beaches and people. (Beautiful people)

Why should they? Is not like they had anything to do with their dismal conditions?
It's stupid to assume that they will feel offended implying that they are not real citizens and yet somehow hold Africa as their country.
