I don't understand. The guy blows his head off, one lives and the other dies??? How does this work? why don't they either both live or both die? please explain this to me.

It was a non-fatal shot. The conscious decision to rid himself of his alter ego, combined with the actual trauma, cured him of his split personality.

Norton's character had a split personality, so he was delusional when he thought that he was watching Pitt's character, but it was him all along that was doing everything. P.S. - Bateman's character didn't imagine all that he did. Society let him get away with it because he was an executive in the financial district. The whole story was a commentary of life in 1980's New York.

That's such an awesome question... It took watching it 3 times before I figured it out.... I understand he's killing off his other personality, but it still doesn't make sense how he can live after shooting himself it the head. Also, if they're the same person the entire movie, how whenever the car crashes on the side of the road Ed Norton's lying on the passenger side of the car??? Oh well, it's still an awesome movie.

Basically, the guy is crazy and Brad Pitt is the voice in his head so he kills the voice. I am not sure exactly how he doesn't die himself, but it was a strange illogical movie from what I saw so it's gonna have a strange ending that makes no logical sense.

Multiple personalities. He had to get rid of the personality played by Brad Pitt so that he could have a normal satisfying life.

It's the same guy. He just has two different personalities. He was just killing off one of the personalities.

umm tyler was part of his pshycosis, he wasnt real except in his mind( ed norton ) it was about breaking free from material possessions and what we are slaves too
