i am having trouble opening a file that is an image/x-jg. there are no programs that i know of that i can open it with. is there any quick way to open it. it won;t let me change the format either, for example, change to text or btmp..etc. please help.

Here's what I would do. Right click on the icon and then left click on Rename. Now type in the box the exact same name EXCEPT CHANGE THE PART THAT SAYS IMAGE/X-JG or X-JG, simply to jpg. So, let's say the name of the image is Birthday party.x-jg, you would rename it Birthday party.jpg and then try to open it. However, I have to ask you, whether you know the person who sent you this image file. These days you have to be particularly careful when you open up a file that has an unfamiliar extension so I would advise that before you open it, that you scan it to make sure that it is not a virus in disguise.

image/x-jg is a valid MIME type, but I don't know what file extension. Maybe .jg?

There is no such file extension. Are you sure it isn't a .jpg?
