A "rebel" is anyone who goes against the mainstream. As a teen, I was a rebel because I was one of five people in my class who was a bona-fide "punk" with the hair, chains, etc... 20 years later I'm still a rebel, now against the public school system because I homeschool my kids. Some people say that a person is a rebel because they are "acting out" or trying to get attention and that may be true in some cases. A true rebel doesn't really care what other people think and do what they do because it is right for them. Remember, the English colonists here in the States rebeled against Britain and created a brand new country, so it isn't always a bad thing.

Being a Rebel involves stupidity(ie: John McCain). A rebel is one who rebells against standard norms,a nonconformist, one who goes out by themselves: usually a low self esteemed individual whom tries to makes themself (eithier in thier own eyes or mind) or someone elses worthy. When someone calls you a rebel they have more than likely seen some of the afore mentioned traits in you--NOT GOOD--.

It means they don't like to be told what to do, the word comes from rebeling as in going against what your parents are saying. So if they say clean your room and you say NO, they say stop rebeling, Kinda like being naughty. I hope that helps you to understand the word.
