I have dealt with depression my whole life, but I never went to see a psych or anything. I have always dealt with my problems internally. I feel that I have wasted so much of my life. Yet, I know that as always it is a passing phase.
Overall, I am in a better position, but it is not satisfying my needs of life. I work and study exessively. If I don't, I may relapse into a state of boredom accompanied by feelings of uselessness.
I attend colege full time, and work 30 hrs a week. I also am in the Army Reserves. I have traveled to several countries in my time, but now I feel that I am stuck in a rut. I feel that life is going to be one endless agonozing problem after another. I am not happy, but I am not depressed. I have no feelings of darkness that I associate with depression. I just feel a severe lack of happiness. I am living mechanically. I have a hole in me where my happiness was.
So am I depressed or just lacking life's enjoyment?
What are my options?
With no drugs.

You have a great deal of insight into your problem no doubt you have been pondering it for along time. If I could offer one small suggestion it would be to lose yourself in the service of others. No I'm not talking about a job where you get paid but in volunteering your time to kids, or invalids, or addicts any group that you would like. The point is that when you help other people you cannot help but help yourself. First off you begin to realize just how many problems other people can have and that most are alot tougher than the ones you have. And second there is nothing better in life than knowing that you were responsible for someone elses success in overcoming their own personal distress or demons. Nothing can change that. He climbs highest who helps another up. You are right in seeking to avoid drugs there are far to many natural highs to be enjoyed. One last thing that really helped me, monitor your diet and how what you eat affects your feelings. I know it sounds lame but seriously the artificial sweetners in diet soda etc. caused me tremendous feelings of anger. These went away once I quit taking it into my body. Thanks for listening to my ramblings I hope you find what you are looking for!

Join the club...I call it ClubLife...If you feel there's something else going on you may want to seek help before it becomes something more severe. Mental Illness that goes untreated is not pretty. You sound pretty put together, maybe you're right, you may need some enjoyment in you life.

Try a whole range of things to see what you like most, kayaking, trail bike riding, hiking, mountaineering, rallying: there's hundreds. Spend time regularly helping those less fortunate, which will help you feel better about yourself. View www.relax7.com/7.php and choose a hobby: painting is good, so is writing, just as long as you can express yourself.

Very seldomely are we truely depressed. Probably a therapist would put the symptoms into different catagories and avoid depression if possible. Also your active person something will come up.
