Do you remember when the internet started?

I guess I mean when you first heard about it and started using it. I am not asking the date.

1995... later I remember a friend telling me there was an auction style site (eBay) and I was interested but thought---ahh no big deal, just like anything on here/

When I was 10 in 1990 our family got our first computer. I dont think I actually started using it until I was like 13 in 93. I remember it being really small and slow. There really wasnt that much to do on the internet cause it was really slow.

I remember in 1992 using an old old computer of my father that ran on dos....just because I had a boyfriend who was a computer engineer and he turned me on to it.

In 1994, he made me a real computer, and told me how to get on the net, and by 1995, I was on aol and the security was awful....people would get into my system remotely and I could watch my computer being used by a stranger. Scary!. That is what I remember.

Sheesh! I still had one of those answering machines that plug into your phone!

I know the net was used by government long before us civvies started using it, but it was like NOTHING, then AOL....no in betweens for me....it was like an social cultural explosion...overnight.

I will be 19 in march, I can remember going on the internet when I was in elementary school maybe 8 or 9 and we played with paint on the computer. I used to think paint was the coolest thing, now look we've come so far. now my 360 is the coolest thing!

Yep, little girl, I do. It was me an' ol' Al Gore, putting together all them smileys (emoticons) and wiring. Tough to do with them steam powered computers, back then. Then came the might "trash 80". Still remember that first network crash, what a train wreck!

For me, when I was using my Apple II to access bulletin board systems (BBS) in the mid 1980s. 300 baud modems rule.
