There are a couple there which look suspect to me. Shouldn't be too hard to google for an answer though, one that will stick. Good luck with that.

The real answer is not even on the list! It was General Philip Sheridan's idea, and was approved by General-in-Chief Sherman. Bascially Sheridan applied the lessons he learned in the Shenendoah Valley of Virginia during the Civil War. As long as the Plains Indians had the buffalo as a food source they would continue their nomadic lifestyle, but if the buffalo were killed they would be forced onto the reservations. Though there was a demand for buffalo meat and hides at one time, it didn't drive their near extermination. In fact, most buffalo were left where they were shot. In yet another irony, many former Confederate soldiers earned bounty money destroying buffalo.
