First: use the Foiling Method....

(6)(6) + (6)(-V`8) + (-V`8)(6) + (-V`8)(-V`8)

Sec: combine the terms...

36 + (-6V`8) + (-6V`8) + (V`64)

36 - 6V`8 - 6V`8 + V`64

36 - 12V`8 + V`64

Third: find the square root of "8" & "64" > express the values in lowest terms....

36 - 12V`(4*2) + V`(8*8)

36 - 12V`(2*2*2) + 8

36 - 12(2)V`(2) + 8

36 - 24V`(2) + 8

36 + 8 - 24V`(2)

44 - 24V`(2)

(6 - √8)(6 - √8)
= (6)(6) - (√8)(6) - (√8)(6) + (√8)(√8)
= 36 -12√8 + 8
= 44 - 24√2

What you'll want to do is factor this bad boy. Remember FOIL.

So it'll be (6*6) + (6*-sqrt8) +(6*-sqrt8) + (-sqrt8*-sqrt8)

6*6 is 36, -sqrt8 * -sqrt8 is going to be 8. So you have 36 + 8 + 2(6*-sqrt8)

Which simplifies to 44 + 12*-sqrt8

Use the FOIL method (First, Outside, Inside, Last).

(6*6) + (-6sqrt8) + (-6sqrt8) + (sqrt8*sqrt8)

36 - 12sqrt8 + 8
44 - 24sqrt2, which is about 10.06
