It could be a lot of things (files) but if it's just started or starting you might have too many files on it you don't need. They'll also clean your registry which can cause problems. You should start with these suggestion. If this doesn't work, re-post the question stating you have already cleaned the pc and have checked it for adware, etc..

Download
CCleaner. Com, it's free and run it and allow it to clean your pc

Download
Ad-Aware, it's free and run it and it'll clean off unwanted and other things. That should pretty much clean your pc up. (make sure you are downloading the "personal use version" which is what the link below should direct it too.

Reboot your computer and run Defrag several times. After each Defrag has run, reboot the PC and run Defrag again. Usually about 3 times.

Both the guys above are right. When your computer slows down it is a sign that either you are running too many progs at once, i.e. you have not enough memory to cope; or you have picked up a virus.

If you can, get more memory, ie upgrade. Make sure you close progs that you are not using that may me slurping tons of memory. Run a prog like WinPatrol which will show you what progs are running at any given time. Lots of progs that you will not need, automatically start at boot-up without you realising it. The prog. is free on internet.
And as the guy above says, run a scan prog - again free on net - regularly.
Most times you surf the net, you pick up ad progs. Try adaware or AVG free - once more free from the net.
And keep your machine 'tidy' by doing a regular disc clean-up and defrag (Progs/Accessories/System tools).
Hope this helps.

- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by wallpaper and/or a screensaver full of graphics. They run in the background and consume memory. (I have only 512mb RAM, run multiple programs simultaneously, and have set my wallpaper and screensaver to blank.)

I don’t do games, but I do know they are primarily graphics which need and use a lot of memory.

- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
- cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
- cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
- then cl Remove.
- This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.

- When you are working in a large file, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)

1. Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag

2. Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.

3. From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart

3. click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup

4. click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)

All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
- Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

Lol, you people need to learn something.
Check your Virtual RAM, if it's Windows.
Still, if it's Windows, you don't want managed VRAM.
Do weekly defrags, RAM defrags, etc.
