80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Through life we have experiences, perceived through our senses which help shape us into the person we become. LIFE is a state that is attained by a vast number of physical elements. It is what we do through our actions that define us while we are alive. So it could be said that life is a Tool. And it is up to every living thing and being, in this case us humans, through our actions to give or bring meaning and purpose to life.
A nail can be used to join materials and create a structure, it has meaning. Otherwise it's just a nail and it only just exists, responding to the elements of it's environment.
We don't find the reason why we live, we create the reason and meaning for life by what we do with it. And That is the purpose of our existence. There is so much more that could be said as this is a very deep subject.

No as if we would be just nerve endings we could not think meta about perceiving and getting information in through the five senses, which then stimulates the nerve ends. The interpretation what this stimulation means is very individual actually. If it would just end with the nerve ends, all experience would be the same for everyone, plus it would be without conscious perception of it, you could not be aware of it, as it is not the nerve ends which have a conscious perception but we. You do not say, I am a nerve end or I am nerve ends, but you say I HAVE nerve ends. See the difference?

I think the meaning of life is differant for everyone, thats why no one knows what it is. Then again, life could have no meaning. The meaning of life could be us just wondering around, getting coffee in the mornings, going to movies, paying a water bill. Who knows. Just live life, man. Dont worry about what it all means.

Certainly not. Those who think like this have a short -sighted perspective of life. Just imagine the limitless possibilities of human life. Why restrict it? Restriction to those parameters makes life dull and boring. Open up yourself. Life's great.

i think it is about stimulating everything.. your body, mind, soul, heart.. stretching the limits of whatever you can feel. challenging yourself and enjoying those stimulations is a good way to find the meaning :]
