I'm gonna have to roll with Sugar Mamma on this one.... and I'm as WHITE as they come!! It's not that black people don't tip, it's ignorant fools that don't tip. White trash, Black trash, Any kinda trash.... it has nothing to do with race. It mostly has to do with how people were brought up and if they have respect for the hard working people who are servers in restaurants.

I'm gonna have to side with Nicole a bit on this one too. Her story is just mind boggling though. I don't know why someone would rave about her and then not tip anything decent. I don't think it had to do with race though. I could see like an old white couple doing the same thing. It's more about the level of education and intelligence.

I'm as black as they come and I tip 20-25% sometimes more if I have a server who engages me and my children and are very personable. Maybe your service is not as good with the black patrons as with white considering you already have this stereotype in your head. I know from personal experience that I have had some lousy service at places and the waitstaff was very obviously catering to the white patrons more. Some people in those cases just wont tip. I usually just politely call over another server to attend to what I need and then my original server usually gets the picture. They don't want their coworker bitching at them LOL. But even in those cases I still tip the minimum 15% and tip the person who helped me the other 5.
Just evaluate yourself and make sure your stereotypes are not causing you to treat them any less.
On the other hand some people may also forget sometimes too. I was in Vegas over new years and my boyfriend forgot to tip the drink server, before I could even open my mouth to remind him she says "Oh you people don't tip!" and stormed off. I was incredibly insulted because we always tip above and beyond the norm and she didn't even give us an opportunity to do so before she popped off at the mouth.

I'm black and if I get good service I give good tips. But there is no way I am tipping a waiter who acts like I dont exist after my order is taken. So for me it is based on the service.

I know this is a sensitive question. It's definitely not all of them, but I have noticed a trend. I've been a waitress for two years in a very diverse neighborhood and I had this one black table who loved me. They raved about what a good server I was and how they were going to come back and request me and all this ****. They left me three dollars on a 65 dollar check. Its confusing. I have to think that they just weren't taught how to tip correctly.

Since when did tipping became a mandatory?

It is a tip. IN FACT, NOBODY HAS TO TIP YOU. Go get a decent job which has a good pay. Every penny that is paid to you is money they worked hard for it.

You must work at a restaurant that only Black people go to in order for you to sit down and actually go through with this question.

It depends on the class of blacks. I was a waitress, and I know that white trash and foreigners don't tip either.
