Why does it matter if something is water soluble or not when snorting it?

I was reading Wikipedia and I came upon this:

"As the name implies, "freebase" is the base form of cocaine, as opposed to the salt form of cocaine hydrochloride. Whereas cocaine hydrochloride is extremely soluble in water, cocaine base is insoluble in water and is therefore not suitable for drinking, snorting or injecting."

What does something being water soluble have to do with it being able to be snorted?

If it's not water soluble, it won't be absorbed into the bloodstream. Waste of money.

I'm guessing that when you heat it, there is a chemical change and it becomes water soluble.

What Does Water Soluble Mean

Water soluble means that the substance can be dissolved in water. Actually i think all substances can be dissolved. It just depends on the amount of solvent used. For example, 1 g of sodium chloride, a soluble salt, may dissolve in 5 cm3 of water while barium sulphate may dissolve in 100cm3. When a substance dissolves in water, water molecules form a layer around the substance. Water is a polar molecule because of the difference in electronegativity between hydrogen and oxygen. Oxygen is more electronegative than hydrogen and draws electrons towards itself. Hence the oxygen end of water has a partial negative charge and the hydrogen end has a partial positive charge. When a soluble salt is added to water, the oxygen end of water is attracted to the cation(positively-charged ion) and the hydrogen end is attracted to the anion(negatively-charged ion). Water pulls the ions apart from the crystal lattice structure and forms a shield around them, thus dissolving the salt. Other than ionic compounds, polar substances and any substance that can form substantial hydrogen bonding with water is water soluble. pls vote me for the best answer!!!haha
