When starting up my computer, my 17" LCD monitor(less than 1 yr old) stays dark or displays moving verticle bands of light. So far if I keep messing with it after a long while it will finally display the opening page, then once it does, everthing works fine for as long as I'm on the computer ( a Compact Presario), till the next time I start it up again. It seemed like pressing the on /off button on the monitor might help it open the page sometimes. Seemed like the problem started a week ago after I downloaded an anti virus program and it scanned my computer and and found 1 file that it claimed was infected with trojan horse virus and it deleted it. I've since uninstalled that software from the computer. Mabe that's just a coincidence? Do you think its the computer or the monitor and what can I do about it?

check your cables and make sure they are tight. then check your hardware in device manager. maybe update a driver for your video. other that that try a known good monitor. (i'd do that before updateing drivers)

well it could be 3 things, your monitor, your video cable or your video card if you have one or your motherboard if your video is built in. try using another video cable. or test your monitor on another computer that will help you narrow down your problem to your PC or your monitor. when you test them don't mess with it let it boot by itself to see what happens.
