Yes animals can become depressed. Though this depends on the species' level of socialism and the more social they are, the deeper the depression can be. Some causes could be loss of a mate, or a family member. Inability to win a mate. Detachment or alienation from the group. Domestically for example, dogs, horses and even rats would be highly prone to depression. Recently in my area an article in the local newspaper described a relationship of a man and an orphaned moose. He built a shack in his yard and slept there for a year with it as the young moose would cry all night. Aren't we privileged with the gift of speech.

I had a dog that got very sad and depressed when his friend of at least 10 years died. It was another dog. They were inseperable.

After Maile died, my dachsund Rizzo would just sit in the middle of the living room and howl. I'd go get him and put him on my lap. This went on for a good week. THen he got attached to me.

I ended up taking him everywhere with me. My husband and kids would all be home, but if I wasn't there to let him get on my lap, he would just keep howling. No one could shut him up.

I'd take him to work with me ( I owned my own business). I'd need to run out to the bank. He'd be asleep in the backroom. My employees told me the minute I left he knew it and would howl until I came back.

He's gone now too. I do miss him. I know for a fact how sad and depressed that little guy was though.

I'd say if they are really happy, they play a lot.

Hey, it sounds a little like you might be reading too much into other people's reactions. For example the people in the cars while you're at the bus stop...people in cars just tend to stare out the window - I doubt they're sat there judging your body! Try not to assume that when people look at you they are thinking something negative about how you look. As for your confidence...you could try doing some muscle building exercises to try and make your body a little less skinny, BUT I think that it would be best to try and accept and like your body as it is. I know that is kinda hard, from experience :p But once you do start to see the good things about your body then it makes it easier to be confident. I found that buying some new clothes that really suit your body helps! If you are skinny the good thing about that is that you can probably look great in a lot of clothes that some girls can't. Things like skinny jeans, leggins and shorts, etc. Most models in magazines are very skinny so see how they wear their clothes to look good. I hope this helped somewhat :)

Of course, animals have feelings just like people. Look at Animal Planet. The a mother lion searching and morning for lost/dead cubs. How protective nearly all animals are with their young.
Look at elephants that investigate morn their dead. Dogs how happy they are to see/greet loved ones when they return. How the mobe and be down for a spell when punished or mistreated or separated from their good owners.

Yes. Growing up, we had 3 dogs. One of them loved my brother and followed him everywhere. When my bro went into the navy, that dog layed down by the front door, only getting up to eat, drink and go outside to potty, for weeks and weeks waiting for him to come home. Now I have 2 cats. One followed my 18 yr. old son everywhere around the house. My son moved out last month, and this cat still goes in his old room to try to find him, and lays down on the floor with a very sad look on his face. It breaks my heart!

Yes. I had a dog who would get quite deeply depressed if she didn't get out enough for walks and exploring, such as if we got busy and didn't have time to go fun places. She would get mopey and lose interest in just about everything.

Many monkeys have the same symptoms of insanity as humans do when they are isolated or taken away from their mothers. They rip out their hair, bite themselves, and have "blank" stares.

They get sad when you eat in front of them & happy when you feed them. My dog smiles when happy.
