I am 28 weeks pregnant and at 20 weeks when i had my first Ultrasound the Tech said she was 90% sure that it was a girl. But I dont know how she got that because my mom watched the screen the whole time and said the baby never opened its legs. And the Tech told me that the testicals dont drop till 28 weeks so it could be a boy but we just couldnt tell. But in the same sentence went on to say she was 90% sure it was a girl. I go back for another ultrasound on the 7th and I was wondering has anyone made it like all the way to the delivery room and had a baby of the opposite sex that they were told? And how did you handle it, dont get me wrong I will love the baby no matter what but I just cant see taking a baby boy home in a pink carseat. Thanks.

I read somewhere that they're more likely to be wrong if they say girl than if they say boy, but even then, if they don't get a good look, they won't say they're sure. And you can tell it's a boy by more than the testicles. My ultrasound was at 19 weeks, and he was definately a boy!

But I do know someone who's tech got it wrong: My fiance's youngest sister was supposed to be a boy, and they didn't know otherwise until a few minutes after she was born.

I also know someone who said they were having a boy, but ended up having identical twin girls, but I'm not sure if I believe her. I mean, she did have the girls, but I'm thinking maybe she skipped that 20 week u/s. An entire second baby is hard to mistake for a penis.

I think that if the tech said 90%, then they must've only caught a flash. I would wait for the second ultrasound before I started buying frilly dresses. My sister-in-law had to have three before she found out for sure it was a girl, but it only took me one.

Good luck and congratulations!

Ultrasound is very accurrate at telling the gender these days. Basically, if they don't see a penis, baby is declared a girl. It's generally pretty obvious when baby is a boy, especially if, like when one of my ultrasounds was done, they catch the baby with a 'Mr. Happy' . LOL, and they took a picture of it. The baby's legs don't have to open for them to be able to tell, remember that when they move that wand over your belly they get to see from several different angles, allowing them to check. As for as the testicals not descending, that's not the exact part they're looking for, I think she was just giving you information. The testes might not drop till 28 weeks, but the penis would be present. There's always a chance the ultrasound is wrong, but most likely it's correct. And if it's not, most car seats are returnable for at least 30 days after purchase. A baby isn't going to know a difference at all! Or, send dad or grandma out to buy a seat you already have picked out while you're still in the hospital with baby. OR buy two! Return one after you're sure.

It has never happened to me, but it happened to a very good friend of mine. She already had 3 boys. This was her last try. From the start they said it was a girl.

They were thrilled to death. They went out and bought all pink and girly things. Up until the minute the baby was born, they told her it was a girl.

Guess what? It wasn't. It was a boy. Both her and her husband were so disappointed. Talk about postpartum depression. It took a long time to get over it.

They had been told for months that they were finally getting the little girl they had hoped for. It was a terrible experience.

I had both of my kids right before they started doing sonograms so I had to go on my instincts.

I knew my first was going to be a boy. The whole time I was pregnant I called him Nathaniel. I would've been shocked if he had been a girl.

I of course wanted a girl the second time, but didn't know. The day before I was at a dr. appt. and they told me that her heart beat was really fast and usually that meant a girl. It was.

I kinda like the days of when it used to be a surprise and people didn't know ahead of time. Especially in this situation where they were told wrong.

Best of luck to you and I hope you get the baby that you always dreamed of.

I have never had this happen but I am sure that techs probably know other things to look for that may indicate the sex. Who knows you just have to keep in mind that the techs do ultrasounds all the time. Congrats and Good Luck!

well i found out with all mine and they were right every last time. but they do mess up though to. if ur worried about it take yellow with u to the hospital just in case. i always ask the next time i went just to make sure. but there is this at home test u can do and it has worked for alot of ppl that i know. u take a needle and thread u put the thread in the eye of the needle tie the end like ur getting ready to sew something u can lay down on ur back or us ur wrist place the needle over ur belly or wrist. make sure its not moving at all and its very still. it dont touch u at all. its works better if someone does it for u. when its still it will start to move on its own if it goes in circles its a girl if it swings back in forth or zig zag what every someone wants to call its a boy. i hope i have that right but try it its really neat.

My mom kept telling everyone it was going to be a girl...Well I was born a girl guess those ultrasounds are not as good as they pretend to be or maybe back then... But I still dont know how they could mistake a girl for a boy!!!!

If it's a boy, they can tell much earlier than 28 weeks. I have two week and they knew both times at 20 weeks. You're probably having a girl. If you're really worried about it, you could have someone bring you a cover for your car seat. You're probably having a girl though. Were they able to show you the labia?

Yes!!! I know 2 people that have had that happen. Both were told that they were having girls and when they delivered out popped boys. One had a nursery that was pink and purple with butterflies and the other had a fairy theme! Not to mention all the clothes, blankets, etc. Thankfully Babies R Us was awesome and allowed a lot of exchanges!
