Go into Internet Explorer and click on "Tools", then select "Internet Options". Go to the "Programs" Tab, and make Sure the box at the Very Bottom, which say IE should check to see if it's the Default Browser, is Checked. Then Close Internet Explorer and Re-open it. It will ask You if You would Like to Make it Your Default Web Browser, and then You Click Yes or OK.

press start and go to the control panel and click on the add or remove programs. Then click set program access and defaults. then click on custom and you should see options such as chose a default web browser. then click on internet explore and click ok. that should change your default browser. it is also useful for changing other default programs. i used windows xp to do this but im not sure about the older windows software.

Firefox is one of the most safest browsers available today, you will not get any advertisement pop-ups while surfing the web as it contains its own pop-up blocker. There are all the features that IE has.
