Can i get a remote start, keyless entry on my 98 ford escort? The car does not have a keyless entry on it right now and i was wondering if you had to already have one. Also worth the money to have it instaled or should i do it myself with the DVD it comes with? Is it hard?

Keyless entry is dependent on power door locks. If your Escort has them, you can get it, if not, you will pay extra for the parts to make the locks into power locks. The remote starter itself can be self-installed, but for the couple of hundred bucks, installed, for a basic unit, why not get it professionally installed so you have a labour warranty? The kit to make non-power door locks into power locks runs $50 to $100 (parts only). And yes, there are remote starters for standard transmission cars, and there have been for a long time.

As long as you have the money, you can get everything you want there. Its not something a novice should attempt. I recommend you take it somewhere to get it installed. They will tell you what you need, and be sure to get it with a warranty from the people who install it. In case it stops working because of an instilation problem, they should fix it for no charge. Standard transmission remote starts are avaliable, a professional should install that too.

If it has power locks, then definitely. I just installed a remote start in my car and for the locks, all that had to be done was to run a wire from the control module/receiver to the wire for the door locks. real easy. all that makes the locks work is a tiny bit of power being sent through em. DVD should be plenty to get you going on it.

there is a kit with keyless entry and remote start, don't know much about it i thinks its fairly new. i would not recommend self installation, as it requires in depth mechanical knowledge, also could void any warranty that may come with the product.

well I have not personally put keyless entry on a ford escort but I did put keyless entry on my 1994 yukon. just go to summitracing.com and do a search for remote starter and keyless entry.

BTW, remote start is only possible if it has an automatic transmission. The starter won't work with a standard unless the clutch is depressed. Bypassing this switch is illegal because, if you parked in gear, the car could drive off down the street with no one in it and the doors locked!

i own a repair shop, and its not that hard to install, the DVD that comes with it is pretty good at explaining this in details and it covers all the needed steps for installing this, the one bad thing about it unless you have a portable DVD player you have to watch a certain amount of it then go and try and install it,but still on an over all basis its not hard to do at all,and one thing for sure ,if you install it and it tears up,you,ll know how to repair it,that's the good part of it,i think you can install it,its not a bad job at all, kind of fun in a way when you do it your self, and it all works right, good luck,i hope this help,s.

If the car has power door locks it might not be too bad, if not you will need to install all the motors and hardware, could get expensive.
