yes, a locking cover is probably the best way to go. either that or get a new roommate.

There are construction thermostats that can be purchased at heating wholesalers. They look like a red plastic capsule on the end of two wires. They come in various single settings. Call one of your local HVAC companies (heating) and ask them to order one for you. It shouldn't cost you over $20 and they are easy to put on. Unlike normal thermostats they can just be allowed to dangle from the wires.

Good luck.

Accu stat sells one with preset temperatures, The bulbs inside can be purchased at different temperatures. For instance, 68 for heat and 78 for a/c.We had these in goverment quarters on military housing bases.Or you can buy another one and put it in your return air duct and leave other one on wall.Wire up one in r/a duct and have disconnected one on wall. A lock box is also a good idea as has been already suggested.

put a second tsat in series with the one you have. dont tell him know where it's at. They also make a " Hot Dog" it's red in color and is used on construction sites so people dont fool with the heat and leave the round stat disconnected and wire in the " hot dog". Taht way he can do what he wants to the honeywell t-87f and it not wired . The hot dog could go under your bed? Been in HVAC for 30yrs.

go to your local store and get a digital thermostat with childproofing...they will know what your talking about...that way you will need a code to change any settings no matter what the dial says...

The only way to do that is to get a second thermostat and place it where it cannot be seen ( this may defeat your entire purpose ) and to disconnect the old one.

You can purchase a clear plastic hard box that is lockable from a "Granger" catalog. you mount it directly around the stat onto the wall. This way you have little chance of harming the stat.
