to simplify radicals, you break the number up. 54 is 9*6, you can take the sqrt of 9, but not 6

so the answer is 3 * the squareroot of 6

Start | All Programs | Accessories

If you want to know HOW to do square roots by hand, there are several Web sites that can show you how.
