just for sleep?

no, I don't think so.

It is an anti-psychotic medicine used to help alleviate agitation in people with schizophrenia and sometimes patients with Alzheimer's disease who can sometimes (but not necessarily) have delusions, hallucinations, and agitation.

I've never heard it prescribed for insomnia.

It is mostly used to treat bipolar disorder and other mood disorders

One of the side effects is tiredness so some doc's will give it for sleep.

Things to watch for
(1) If you take it daily and are at a dose of 150 mgs and take
it every day for a week you have to be weened off it if you
stop or miss a dose you may feel extreamly cold and not
beable to get warm even when the room is 125 F* and
at the same time be sweating.

(2) It has the side effect of extream weight gain most med's that
cause weight gain you gain the weight because you eat
more because the drug's make you more hungry
on this drug you are starving all the time but you will gain
weight even if you don't eat more
My Hubby was on this for sleep for only 2 months and he
the type of guy that was skiney his whole life and could eat
any thing and he gained 50 45 poundes in three months
and has not been able to lose the weight and yes he goes
to the gym

(3) It can make the person taking it diabetic type 2 and again
that happen to my hubby and they said it happens

Doc's like to use this med for sleep because you can not get hooked. But the side effects can be bad.
