fishing for sailfish and dorado can be excellent in salvador. The marlin fishing is also pretty good. Most of the offshore fishing takes place around costa del sol - about an hour from san salvador. You can charter a boat from bahia del sol hotel. I live down here and always fish on friends boats so I can't vouch for the ability of the crew on the hotel's boat. Inshore fishing can be pretty good for rooster fish. I usually fish with a guy named oscar who lives on the beach in Los Cobanos. Oscar is a commercial fisherman and also takes people scuba diving and spear fishing. Just ask anyone in the village and they will show you where Oscar lives. A word of caution- Salvador is not Costa Rica- I would reccomend hiring a driver or travelling with a local. I am married to a salvadoran national and have travelled down here since since I was a kid.
I have heard that the black snook fishing is good around the mouth of the rio lempa from the captian on my friends boat-but I haven't fished there myself.
My friend may be interested in chartering his boat. We took 1st place(three marlin) in the release division of the annual marlin tournament this year. I feel he has one of the best captians around. His mate has fished salvador, costa rica ,and mexico. If you want to charter my friends boat, call marco when you get to salvador at 786 073 92. He speaks fluent english.
Hope this helps, Tripp
