Are conservatives ignorant, or do they just believe ignorant things?

Question

I want to hear from anyone whose been in close contact with some of them and observed them in their private lives. Are they stupid at home too, or just when they come in contact with things they don't understand?

Conservatives aren't all completely obstinate and unreasonable.

I have one test.

If someone tells me they don't think Global Warming is accelerated by man, then I completely write them off. If they can't accept science and common sense on such a simple issue, than they aren't worthy of my time and trying to get them to reason is probably hopeless. If they can concede man contributes then, we can talk.

Even Bush says global warming is a serious challenge and we have to develop energy sources that cut or produce no emissions, and they still won't believe it. Bush the verifiable king of today's Conservatives can't even convince them.

It's sad and very scary.

I'm liberal on social issues and conservative on fiscal issues and I'm happy to say that I have friends that are conservative through and through. They are respectful of other opinions, yet they are firm in their own value system. They do not cram their view points unto anyone who is passing by. They are not belligerent. They do not spout off and name call and think louder is better. They do not believe that everyone that disagrees with them are tree-huggers and sinners. Proud to have them as friends (even though they are conservatives) :-)

My parents are conservative, and it is just when they come in contact with things they don't understand.

My mother, for example, is a smart person but doesn't bother looking beyond the headlines. When we were discussing the Chiapas Rebellion and I explained to her the Zapatistas rebelled because they knew they could not compete with mass-produced corn from America if NAFTA was passed, she said "Well, they should have just put a tariff on it."

She wasn't stupid, just ignorant of what NAFTA even stood for.

Hey, you forgot to accuse them of being crazy. Liberals usually think anyone who disagrees with them is either stupid, ignorant, or crazy, so maybe conservatives are just plain nuts. Or maybe liberals are really, really intolerant.

I hear that. i'm wiccan and that i receives o trie dof listening to your going to flow to hell becasue you belive differntly blah blah blah. i'm now unlikely to sit some the position and tell others a thanks to worship so why do so that you ought to me.
