I had this problem too. The key for me was to keep trying different types of books and you will eventually find a book interesting and it will suck you into it and then you will want to find other books that make you feel the way that one did.
I don't know what types of books you are trying to read but I was bored by fictional stories at first and a non-fiction, biography of a person I liked was what got me hooked on reading, so after I was done I got some more biographies and now I can read anything that comes my way as long as it I can relate with the character or the storyline. SO keep trying! :0)

Ask some friends what books they like, or ask at the library for some recommendations. Get several different types if you're not sure what you might like: Science-fiction, mystery, romance, horror, war, vampires........whatever interests you. And just pick one to start with. Read a couple chapters or 50 pages. If you like it, keep going. If you don't, stop and pick a different one. I think when you find out what type of book you like, you will begin to like reading. I used to read mysteries all the time, but then I discovered fantasy books, and I haven't picked up a mystery in years! It may even be that you would like non-fiction books better than fiction. My brother is a Civil War nut and that's about all he ever reads about, whereas I wouldn't even begin to read the first page! Think about what you like, what interests you, and then find a book about it.

Go indulge yourself into a bookstore, like Barnes and Nobles. There's books in this world that you never thought could be written about. Any interest you might have, it's guarenteed to be written about somewhere. I love going to book stores... it's a dangerous place--I can spend a lot of money there. Sit down with a book, read the first few pages... it's easy to get lost in a book if it's of a topic you enjoy.

Read a book that seem interesting to you, like open to a random page (somewhere in the middle) and begin reading, if that page does not interest you, then chose another book, repeat this until you have found a book that interests you.

In fact, I think reading books is simple and enjoyable to one's life if he/she knows how to as well as appreciates the value of reading them for more knowledge and indirect experience via the words of great authors. Some 2000 years ago a great Roman scholar, Cicero said something like, "A room without books is like a body without a soul" from which it implies voracious readers who read to know, to understand, to appreciate, to explore, to find ideas, etc. and I'm sure this reading potential is more and more important and vital to one's academic, professional or even daily life in the world nowadays. In brief, find some good friends who love reading and learn from him/her why they love reading and, a practical tactics, how they enjoy reading and ask him/her if some exchange of ideas is possible for a certain book as a first step of your reading path beyond. Cheers.

same way you eat an elephant.
one bite (page) at a time.
start with one page a day.
find an area of interest, once you do work your way up to a book a month.
ask a librian to help you, it is their expertise.
note the average millionaire reads one non- fiction book a month. the average working poor reads one NF a year.
you do the math.
