Before the industrial revolution that you learned about in American History, the British started using a little invention called the steam engine to haul coal from the mine to close markets. That was the beginning of "modern" times in European and American history, but tools and simple machine are traced back to the beginning of humanity. This is what set us apart from what we consider animals versus human beings. You have a lot of studying and general thoughtfulness ahead of you. Think about it. How did you (we) get here?

Machines have replaced human work in many ways.

When you go to a grocery store and you are purchasing your items, there is a scanner that scans the prices of the itmes...there isn't a need for price labels on things, because now there are barcodes. Not only that...the cash register calculates the prices, and all the person has to do is push some buttons and it tells how much you owe, and how much they need to give you back. Most basic math skills are forgotten because of this.

Also, Im not sure if you have ever been to an automobile plant. Where the cars are manufactured. But I visited the BMW plant in South Carolina. It is amazing because they have robots putting the seats inside the cars so perfectly. The robots do other sorts of manual labor that would be hard for a human to do. Robots and other computer systems are so precise. Not only that, they have very fast productivity...which speeds up how much of the product they have, therefore more people can buy it. Which means, they make money faster. So...even though its take jobs away from people, the companies prefer better quality, faster work, and even though the machines are very expensive...over time it saves them money. They dont have to pay the machines for all their hard work for several years.

Take a look at the following article about strawberry farms and how in a 50 hours work-week it replaced 500 worker hours!

the industrial revolution where machines started mass producing things, or moving them along assembly lines, speeding it up, increasing profits. now they are faster than humnas, so they take over the work. they also do the little jobs that illegal immigrants don't want to do.
probably like screw the caps onto toothpaste or something.
