Okay, I am 45 and I am not really into receiving gifts. I do always appreciate chocolate however, my favorite soda and junk food etc. In other words, you could create a large gift basket that has some of her favorite foods, a gift card for her favorite restaurant or store, or something like that. When we women hit our 40's, our skin starts to take on a life of its own. Where once was supple, smooth skin, we are finding "character" or "laugh" lines. We get offended a little to receive lotions or creams that are geared to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, yet have you SEEN the prices of some of these products?? We want to buy them, but we don't like to pay the price. If someone buys us this type of product, the thought enters our head that "oh, so you think I LOOK old???", yet at the same time, when we realize that the person buying the gift spent a lot of money on a product that we otherwise would have hesitated to spend on ourselves, we might appreciate the thought behind it. If you are a woman, you can more safely buy an expensive wrinkle cream as a gift for a woman. If you are a man, I would stick with a gift basket or gift card. Good luck.

OK. if she's not that close- you can give her generic gifts: - perfume - NOT CLOTHES - jewellery? - music - make up - toiletries (shower crap or anything from the body shop) but if she's closer, try something more personalised... - like mugs (can be cute and personalised!) - basically anything personalised - if you know her fave colour- and if you have the money you can buy her jewellery in that colour or her birthstone ?? like- i had a friend who loves aqua and so we gave her a tiffany aqua ring.

Maybe you should get her a giftcard to a place like Macy's JcPennys. That way, she can choose from a variety of things like appliances, clothes, jewlery, etc. :]

If she really does like jewelry, try a new spin on it. There are a bunch of websites that have unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry that is beautiful. My favorite site is www.peluchedesigns.com. They have a beautiful selection, and their prices are good as well. Check them out.
