That's a difficult one as there really are no actors today that are up to the standard of the old film actors but for acting ability and promising talent I would say Johnny Depp as he always tackles difficult roles and Joachim Phoenix for the same reasons.

Gregory Peck - Hugh Jackman

Gregory Peck was a gentleman and an outstanding actor who whenever he made an appearance demanded respect and attention.

I think Hugh Jackman has the same presence, acting ability and he seems genuinely nice and gentleman like. Also they are both very good looking.

Gregory Peck definitely...no one else could have played Atticus Finch!

Today...I would have to say Gary Oldman. He's got that edge to him, and he can play just about any character, and HAS.

Tom Hanks, he's your everyman character. Someone that the general public feel that they can relate to. Jimmie Stewart was exactly that, do you think if you swapped Stewart with Hanks in "It's a wonderful life" that you would still have a great film. I'm pretty sure you would.

Billy Bob Thorton and Tom Hanks. Similar casting modified to today's lack luster, morally corrupt cinematic world.
