I recently purchased a 1GB USB Flash Drive. I have been unable to find any software that does what I want. I am looking for something that will password protect the whole drive! All of the software I have seen allows me to create password protected files on the drive, but does not allow me to protect the complete drive. What matters to me is the drive itself not so much the info on it. If the drive is lost right now all of the data can be deleted and the finder now has a brand new drive. What would be best is software that will lock the drive and disable any means of editing, transferring, or erasing information on the drive. The flash drive is a sandisk cruzer micro 1GB. I also have U3 software on it (came with it) which allows me to run programs off it (firefox, etc...) so I need something that is compatible. Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated! Oh one last thing that happens to be very important, the software has to be free or at least come with a trial!

I forgot to add that drive came with a bad program that can be sidestepped in a few seconds, so something more secure would be nice. Also one on of the main computers that I use I do not have administrator rights. Thanks for any help that you can give!

The U3 platform supports hardware encryption and the U3 Launchpad features a password protection option, Enable Security. Once protected, the U3 smart drive is inaccessible unless the correct password is entered. In addition, when you remove a U3 drive from the PC, it leaves none of your personal data behind.

For the future you might want to consider ativa U3 flash drive that comes with the password security preloaded. Perhaps it is downloadable as suggested in a previous answer. If I get around to it, I've some other drives where I could use password protection.

Good luck.
